In 1960 I was sent to the reeducation through labor or laogai camp and among the ten precious books that I brought with me was Hugo's "Les Mis¨¦rables." I remember Hugo said in the novel that revolution is just like thunder storms, which the sordid world needs to wash away its pollution. Right over the world, there are often dark clouds and the following gales and thunderstorms, but above the dark clouds, there is an expance of serene blue which is eternal, holy and ever-lasting, and this is humanitarianism.
