Thoughts on Lawrence Lau's Appointment to the CPPCC National Committee
Wu Yisan
Summary: At the Chinese University of Hong Kong I saw a red banner on which was written in white simplified Chinese characters: "Warm Congratulations to Comrade Lawrence J. Lau on His Appointment to the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference." I was amazed -- when did Lawrence Lau became a "comrade"? It is clear that even overseas independent intellectuals can be seduced into accepting this detestable label. I had to give credit to the united front skills of the Communist Party.
