A Gift for the CPPCC
Wei Ziyou
Summary: The system of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference is inherently undemocratic. CPPCC delegates do not need to be elected by the people, they are not politically accountable to the people, and they cannot be recalled by the people. The purpose of the CPPCC's existence is mainly to consolidate one-party autocracy, and for that reason it can be described as a private advisory organ dedicated to serving one-party rule.
